Automotive industry – New door-to-door intermodal transport

Alfred Schuon has taken over warehouse logistics and road transport for a customer from the automotive industry and at the same time developed a new, comprehensive intermodal door-to-door concept.

Schuon uses the train route between Stuttgart and Bremen on a daily basis. The main leg is organised by rail and the last mile with our own trucks together with a cooperative freight forwarding partner. Special equipment was purchased for the implementation of the project, which enables direct rail loading. These are intermodal semi-trailers that can be craned. According to the company, further investments are already planned in order to drive forward the expansion in the intermodal transport sector.

“The project has already developed very promisingly in the first weeks. It is part of our corporate philosophy to offer services that are precisely tailored to customer requirements. That is why we have added combined transport solutions to our portfolio,” says Managing Director Alexander Schuon, adding, “Instead of spending several days on the road, our drivers can spend their evenings at home. Only the trailer is loaded at the intermodal terminal. Driver and tractor remain behind to subsequently accommodate a new loading unit for storage in Haiterbach.

“Our goal is to implement integrated logistics concepts even more frequently in the future,” says Schuon. During the planning phase, the company therefore deliberately took a lot of time to optimally prepare for the start of the project.
